The Taj Mahal is considered one of the most romantic monuments in the world. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan after the death of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, this white marble mausoleum is considered a monument to eternal love. Lovers from across the world, flock to see this architectural marvel and admire its radiant beauty. The white marble surface of the Taj Mahal changes its appearance with the passing of the seasons. It glows brightly in the sunlight in summer and reflects the grey-clouded sky during the monsoon. Under the light of the full moon however, the Taj Mahal is said to appear at its best - shimmering like a fairytale castle built for a legendary princess. Visit the Taj during full moon nights for the most memorable and everlasting impression. Taj is also very enchanting at dawn and sunset.

Taj Mahal the most beautiful monument of love could now be seen by the moonlight. It will be kept open two days before the full moon night and two days later. However, monument will remain closed on Fridays even during full moon nights. The total number of visitors is restricted to 400 each night. Only 40 are allowed at a time for 30 minutes each. Taj remains closed on Fridays. Tickets to view Taj Mahal at night can only be purchased 24 hours in advance.

Taj Mahal visit by Moonlight:

• The Supreme Court of India has now permitted visit to Taj Mahal by moonlight.

• The Taj Mahal by moonlight shall be open on Full moon day and 2 days before and 2 days after the full moon.

• On every Friday, it remains closed. (Even for moonlight visit it shall remain closed on Friday).

• The full moon dates are given below in the table.

• The entrance tickets presently are as follows:

            Adult:
            Non Indians - Rs 750/-
            Indians - Rs 510/-

            Children: 3 to 15 years
            Non Indian - Rs 500/-
            Indians - Rs 500/-

• The tickets are issued ONLY ONE DAY in advance from ASI, Agra office. There is NO same day issue of tickets. The timings for ticket purchase are 1100 to 1700 hours one day before.

• The tickets are computer printed individually with full details of the Visitors and are non transferable.

• ASI needs following details in advance on the application form for ALL Visitors and same can be deposited through representatives also.

• Name    Sex   Passport Number     Age    Nationality

• For Indians need age / address and full names for all Visitors.

• 9. ASI shall allot tickets for any batch as per availability.

• 10. The Visitors shall have to reach at Shilpgram parking on their own 30 minutes before and then they shall be taken in the batches of 50 persons per group by police escort in battery van and back. There is no charge for battery van.

• 11. The Visitors are permitted for 30 minutes only inside Taj Mahal and entry is ONLY till first Red Sandstone platform at the entrance gate.

• 12. Video cameras / hand bags are not permitted. Only still camera and binoculars are permitted.

• 13. During the months of Dec and Jan heavy fog is anticipated hence the visibility from the platform shall be very poor.

• 14. The timings are 2030 to 2400 hours. Eight batches of 50 persons. Total 400 visitors per day.

• 15. Guides are not allowed and if required separate full ticket as applicable to Indians (Rs 510/-) shall have to be purchased.

• 16. Taj Mahal for moonlight visits shall NOT be open to visitors during the month of RAMZAN.
